Common Core Updates: Opt Out Form, Tracking & Indoctrination

Apple Core Children2If you’re trying to keep up with the latest news on Common Core, Truth in American Education (TAE) stays on top of what is going on across the U.S. There’s a blog feed listing its two latest posts in the lower right side bar just below the feed to Thomas Sowell’s latest columns. Scroll way down! Last week TAE posted a CCSS Parent Opt Out Form for you to use and share.

I’ve added updates to these Common Core posts as I’ve found pertinent new information or articles. New articles will be at Stopping Common Core.

I will keep adding updates, but because I write on other topics, updates won’t be extensive or all-inclusive of the latest news on Common Core; however, there are links at the posts that will take you to sites specifically focused on it.

I do want to point out some of the latest news that I find of concern. Keep an eye out for news on the state longitudinal data systems. I mentioned these databases at the bottom of The Radical Fingerprints On Common Core. Joy Pullman has more in her post yesterday at TAE, The U.S. Department of Education’s Data Mining Efforts, and Missouri Education Watchdog (MEW) has one today, Database in Common Core Explained. Segregation Revisited? that links to this Reuters column, K-12 student database jazzes tech startups, spooks parents. See also this MEW post of last week, Common Core is Not Just About Standards, it’s also about Data Mining.

Today TAE tweeted a link to a new post at Utahns Against Common Core, American Institutes for Research: The Sexualization of Children and The Gay Agenda in Utah Schools. I’m currently writing about marriage and the upcoming SCOTUS hearings on March 26th and 27th. There is a continual push by some on the Left to indoctrinate children about sexuality and marriage. Please stay informed, but do not become disheartened because there’s a great deal of psy-ops propaganda warfare in all of this. Pray and remember that our times are in God’s hands.

Posts on Common Core are currently listed in the right side bar. They are permanently listed in the Common Core subpage that’s found under Family→Children→Education in the heading.

UPDATE: Welcome, new readers! The last few days many of you who are searching for more information on Common Core have found your way here. Let me know if there’s anything specific that you’re still trying to find. In addition to the posts on Common Core, there are some education posts listed here at the bottom of the page, and posts on John Dewey are listed here. I wrote a number of posts on him because his influence has never abated, and his ideas continue to permeate education. Common Core is a monument to Dewey.

UPDATE 2: New site launched yesterday, March 14: The Educational Freedom Coalition.

The Educational Freedom Coalition (TEFC) exists for homeschool parents who seek to maintain educational freedom from the so-called “common core standards” (CCS) being implemented across the country.

…we house a fully-researched Educational Resource Database that identifies which homeschool-related companies and products have explicitly chosen to align with the CCS, which have some sort of coincidental connection, and which have pledged to remain independent.

Michelle Malkin has been writing about Common Core since January. Her latest post, Time To Opt Out of Creepy Fed Ed Data-Mining Racket, is up today, March 15. Her other columns are listed at Stopping Common Core, along with articles by Stanley Kurtz, Phyllis Schlafly, white papers on Common Core, and websites of some of the groups and individuals who are fighting Common Core.

Open Letter to Parents of Public Schooled Children by Heather Patenaude at TAE is an excellent summary of Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

  1. Parent opt out form? Interesting… #PrivateSchool #Homeschooling is also an option

Thanks for your comment, LAT! You’re absolutely right. I homeschooled my children for most of their education through high school. I wrote about it at the link, and at the bottom of the page there’s a list of other posts I’ve done on education, including many on John Dewey.

I think creating the opt out form is a great initiative for TAE to take. It puts the school on notice and may alert some teachers and administrators or give those who don’t like Common Core some back up in speaking against it.

In Common Core: The Progressives Work to Nationalize Education I linked to this December 2012 release from the Home School Legal Defense Association, Common Core State Standards Initiative: Too Close to a National Curriculum.

The CCSS specifically do not apply to private or homeschools, unless they receive government dollars (online charter school programs have no such protection). However, HSLDA has serious concerns with the rush to adopt the CCSS. HSLDA has fought national education standards for the past two decades. Why? National standards lead to national curriculum and national tests, and subsequent pressure on homeschool students to be taught from the same curricula.

There’s more on national testing and Linda Darling-Hammond’s work at The Radical Fingerprints On Common Core.
