Praying For Marriage: Week 9

Wedding Rings Pray 260UThe Alliance Defending Freedom is sponsoring
9 Weeks of Prayer For Marriage prior to the SCOTUS hearings on March 26 and 27. Each week it’s posting a one-page PDF list of attor- neys, plaintiffs, defendants, and a specific Supreme Court justice for whom to pray as well as prayer requests for people and events taking place about marriage across the nation.

The ADF went ahead with their update today, I presume because of the March For Marriage tomorrow and the SCOTUS hearings tomorrow and the day after.

Law, logic and history all uphold and defend conjugal marriage, but because this is also a spiritual battle, the desires and the intents of man blind him to God’s truth and cause him to defy God and the witness God gives to him in the way marriage benefits individuals and society.

Please pray for all who work to defend marriage. Please pray for your own marriage and for those you know who are married, that those marriages will be strong and a clear witness to God’s goodness. Please pray for pastors that they will not retreat or keep their heads down, but instead boldly defend and teach marriage from their pulpits.

Please pray for me as I write. I do need wisdom and encouragement. Sometimes it is overwhelming and like slogging through mud—and I realize part of that is because our foes are spiritual. Thank you for taking the time to read and for your prayers.

At Defending Marriage and Protecting Religious Freedom, a blog post written to pastors about Pulpit Freedom Sunday, by Dr. Jim Garlow, he points out:

Sometime in June (presumably late June) the US Supreme Court will announce its verdict regarding the definition of marriage. It is hard to know whether our highest court will side with God, or defy biblical truth. But be assured, if the decision is to defy the biblical definition of marriage, there will (at some point) be some profound and unpleasant consequences for you, as a pastor.

Now is the time to declare biblical truth regarding marriage. Sign up to preach on marriage on Sunday, June 9.

Now is the time for all who Christians to declare biblical truth regarding marriage. Some in the U.S. have already endured loss because of their stand on marriage.

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
1 Timothy 2:1–2
The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord;
He turns it wherever He wishes.
Proverbs 21:1
“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?”
Jeremiah 32:17
