Gun Appreciation Day

Today was the first national Gun Appreciation Day, designed to demonstrate that “gun owners and advocates are peaceful, ordinary citizens who love our liberty,” and to push back against efforts by the Obama administration  and other politicians and groups across the country to curtail and undercut the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights. It was sponsored by numerous organizations, and I’ve read that rallies were held in 49 of the 50 states.

Guns Across America

Last week Judge Andrew P. Napolitano wrote:

The right of the people to keep and bear arms is an extension of the natural right to self-defense and a hallmark of personal sovereignty. It is specifically insulated from governmental interference by the Constitution and has historically been the linchpin of resistance to tyranny. And yet, the progressives in both political parties stand ready to use the coercive power of the government to interfere with the exercise of that right by law-abiding persons because of the gross abuse of that right by some crazies in our midst….

Rasmussen Reports had some interesting poll numbers out yesterday: 65% See Gun Rights As Protection Against Tyranny. These are some significant numbers.

Not surprisingly, 72% of those with a gun in their family regard the Second Amendment as a protection against tyranny. However, even a majority (57%) of those without a gun in their home hold that view….

While there are often wide partisan differences of opinion on gun-related issues, even 54% of Democrats agree with 75% of Republicans and 68% of those not affiliated with either major party that the right to own a gun is to ensure such freedom….

Seventy-four percent (74%) of all Americans continue to believe that the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of an average citizen to own a gun. Just 17% disagree. These views haven’t changed in nearly four years of surveying….

Sixty-six percent (66%) of Likely U.S. Voters believe in America today there is too much government power and too little individual freedom. Sixty percent (60%) feel the federal government today does not have the consent of the governed.

Americans are now evenly divided over whether the federal government is a protector of individual rights or a threat to those rights.

There is a page on the Second Amendment found in the heading under Charters of Freedom. I’ll be adding more links to information, news and commentary there. Stay informed, and be aware of manipulation by various politicians and the media because the propaganda machine is going 24/7.

But in the end it is each citizen who is responsible for protecting the liberties set forth in the Constitution and Bill of Rights….

we must remember that an active and informed citizenry is not just a right; it is an obligation.
