January 27th – February 3rd is the third annual National School Choice Week.
National School Choice Week believes that parents should be empowered to choose the best educational environments for their children and supports a variety of school choice options — from encouraging increased access to great public schools, to public charter schools, magnet schools, virtual schools, private schools, homeschooling and more.
This year they’re sponsoring a Whistle-Stop Train Tour that will be making fourteen stops across the country. The train left on Los Angeles on January 25th and will arrive in New York City on February 2. There are other events this week, and you can find their time and location at the website.
My children had a hybrid education, and I’ll be doing some posts on learning and children this week. I’m also going to focus on the Common Core State Standards Initiative, the latest bureaucratic initiative to take control of the education of children out of the hands of their parents.
If you think that because you don’t have children, you don’t need to know what’s going on in education, remember that much of the transmission of information and thinking from one generation to the next remains under the firm control of progressive educators.
