And his silence speaks loudly as to where he really stands on abortion:
On the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, many GOP presidential contenders were not silent. While Democrats Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton continue to defend the horrors of abortion, Republicans Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Rick Santorum, Carly Fiorina, and Ben Carson took to social media. Recognizing the tragedy of over 58 million lives lost, these candidates explained why they stand for life.
Donald Trump, however, has been silent on abortion, the March for Life, and Roe v. Wade all day. He is the only GOP front runner to avoid making a statement. Issues concerning Trump’s pro-abortion past continue to rise – including his statement that his sister would be “one of the best” justices for the U.S. Supreme Court, despite her ruling in favor of partial-birth abortion as a circuit judge.
At The Weekly Standard John McCormack writes:
During the first Republican presidential debate, Trump explained that he “evolved” on the issue when he saw an unwanted child grow up to be a “total superstar.” Asked if he would have become pro-life if that child had been a loser instead of a superstar, Trump replied: “Probably not, but I’ve never thought of it.” In an interview last year, Trump was unclear about whether he still thinks abortion should generally be legal in the first three months of pregnancy. Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks has not replied to emails from TWS asking for clarification on these points.
The word infant comes from a Latin word that means “unable to speak” or “speechless.” Those who are pro-live are a voice for the voiceless, and speak out for those unable to speak for themselves. We open our mouths for the mute.
Open your mouth for the mute,For the rights of all the unfortunate.Open your mouth, judge righteously,And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.Proverbs 31:8–9
I see absolutely no reason to believe that Donald Trump is pro-life. His lack of voice for the voiceless speaks volumes as to what he really believes.
UPDATE: Almost six hours after this post, the Washington Examiner published Donald Trump op-ed: My vision for a culture of life. My opinion on his op-ed is in my new post: Trump Speaks Out Only After Being Called Out On His Roe v. Wade Silence. Not, of course, because of what I wrote, but because he was called out by pro-life news sites.
