Words from Isaiah come to mind.
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!Woe to those who are wise in their own eyesAnd clever in their own sight!Isaiah 5:20-21
You may have already heard that today a Houston grand Jury indicted not Planned Parenthood, but David Daleidan, the pro-life activist who filmed PP bargaining for baby parts. The Federalist has more details in Houston Grand Indicts David Daleiden For Organ Trafficking, Issues No Charges Against Planned Parenthood.
In case you’re wondering how this travesty and horror of law and justice occurred, the Federalist column states that Lauren Reeder, one of the prosecutors in the Harris County district attorney’s office, is a member of the board of directors for the Planned Parenthood affiliate that was targeted by Daleiden. Houston is a swamp of Leftists. The outgoing mayor, Annise Parker, is the lesbian who tried to subpoena the sermons of pastors who had opposed the City Council’s euphemistically named HERO (Houston’s Equal Rights Ordinance, but as Orwell so aptly nailed it, some animals are more equal than others).
Even with whatever bias of the attorneys, this ruling meant those sitting on the grand jury have lost any sense of humanity and the value of life. The sheer jaded callousness of mind and heart to be able to make this ruling on the body parts of babies being sold is incomprehensible.
As a reminder, as on so many other issues Donald Trump plays all sides. Last summer when discussing federal funding for Planned Parenthood:
There’s two Planned Parenthoods, in a way. You have it as an abortion clinic. Now, that’s actually a fairly small part of what they do, but it’s a brutal part, and I’m totally against it. They also, however, service women. Maybe unless they stop with the abortions, we don’t do the funding for the stuff that we want.
We have to help women. So we have to look at the positives, also, for Planned Parenthood.
He added, he’s not alone in his view, stating, “I’ve had many women – I’ve had many Republican, conservative women – come up and say Planned Parenthood serves a good function, other than that one aspect.”
Trump seemed to be perpetrating the Planned Parenthood myth that only 3% of its services are abortions, when in reality, using 2012–2013 statistics, 93.78% of its services are abortions. If you’ve never walked through that particular Planned Parenthood lie, read streiff’s post at Redstate, Planned Parenthood’s 3% Lie. This is the studentsforlife video illustrating it:
In December, Trump was waffling toward life, and I say waffling, because there were caveats:
One audience member, who said his name was Dennis Wagner, of Littleton, said he was concerned about the “civil decay” in society.
“We can see it; it’s very prevalent with this Planned Parenthood,” said Wagner, who then referenced Kermit Gosnell, a former doctor convicted of murdering three infants born alive during attempted abortions.
“With that horror and that carnage in mind, and you can see how when a bill is enacted as the Roe v. Wade thing, all of these things tend to decay, decay, decay and just devolve in this butchering we see now. Will you try to re–”
“Defund,” Trump interjected, referring to Planned Parenthood.
“Defund that, and repeal Roe vs. Wade?” finished Wagner.
“The answer is yes, defund,” Trump said. “The other, you’re gonna need a lot of Supreme Court justices, but we’re gonna be looking at that very, very carefully, but you need a lot of Supreme Court judges. But defund yes, we’re going to be doing a lot of that.”
Saying we’re going to need a lot of justices makes no sense unless he plans on stacking the court as FDR did. I remain skeptical as to his sincerity on defunding Planned Parenthood. Pro-life advocates have been burned so many times by politicians that hedge their bets, that until someone takes an unequivocal stand in tough circumstances (where was Trump last Friday under circumstances that weren’t really tough at all?) the byword is verify, then trust.
Today’s outrageous upholding of evil and condemnation of someone working against that murder of unborn children underscores the importance of standing for life.
UPDATE: Monday evening USA Today published an op-ed by Daleiden, Planned Parenthood videos testify to ugly truth: David Daleiden.
…It is telling that in Planned Parenthood’s new anti-First Amendment lawsuit, it is suing me for everything but defamation.
The videos show Planned Parenthood’s senior leadership partaking in a widespread and organized violation of state and federal laws forbidding partial-birth abortions and profiteering from the sale of fetal organs and tissues, which is why multiple state and federal investigations, including a select committee in Congress, continue to investigate Planned Parenthood’s abortion practice and financial interests in harvesting body parts…
Please find out how your U.S. Representative and Senator voted on defunding Planned Parenthood. Thank them if they voted to defund it. If they did not, ask them why.
